05 OTIGON SAROTA OWANIEN

Otigon Sarota Owanien is an arrangement of an original song by the Kali’na Ayawandé group, with whom we collaborated in French Guiana. The song conveys a welcoming message, literally meaning “How can I please you?” I chose it to symbolize the warm and generous reception given to the first colonists upon their arrival in the Caribbean.

The video below shows a traditional Kali’na celebration. I dream of recreating a similar event where I grew up, at Pointe Faula.

Otigon Sarota Owanien est un arrangement d’une chanson originale du groupe Kali’na Ayawandé, avec lequel nous avons collaboré en Guyane. Il s’agit d’un message de bienvenue, signifiant littéralement « Comment puis-je vous faire plaisir ? ». J’ai choisi cette chanson pour symboliser l’accueil réservé aux premiers colons à leur arrivée dans les Caraïbes, un accueil chaleureux et généreux.

La vidéo ci-dessous montre une fête traditionnelle Kali’na. Je rêve de recréer un événement similaire là où j’ai grandi, à la Pointe Faula.
